Van Oord is a leading international contractor specializing in dredging, marine engineering and offshore projects (oil, gas and wind).
Gazprom is developing the Yamal area with the aim to transport gas to its local netwerk and Western Europe.
In May 2008 Van Oord was awarded a dredging and trenching project on the Yamal Peninsula in Northern Russia. Van Oord will execute the Baydaratskaya Bay Project as a contractor for Russian company MRTS. The final client is Yamalgazinvest, part of Gaprom.
Van Oord executed the project with the trailing suction hopper dredger Utrecht during the ice-free window in 2008. The works entail the dredging and pumping ashore of sand for a reclamation area and dredging and backfilling works for a pipeline trench. The Yamal-Center gas pipeline is laid by Gazprom on the seabed across the bay from rich gas deposits of the Yamal.
Van Oord Offshore has a good track record of working in Artic conditions which played a key role in acquiring this project.
The Friendship II performs survey and crew tender activities for Van Oord at the Baydaratskaya Bay Crossing project.
